We have collected and provide our explaination how to interpret the weather pages so you have a better idea what to expect on your visit to Roatan.
First of all, the big weather forecast pages are not made for Honduras!
For comparison we put a linked weather.com graphic at the bottom of the right column.
It will show a 65% chance for thunderstorms most of the time even if it is sunny here. Actually it is not worth the link.
The Bay Islands have their own micro climate and even different weather seasons than the mainland 40 miles away. Furthermore all islands in the area have their own specific rain pattern according to their location. Guanaja gets more rain than Roatan, Utila gets least.
APRIL THROUGH SEPTEMBER
Sunshine, Sunshine, Sunshine! This is the most stable time of the year. Sunny and hot with a gentle breeze steadily blowing from the East flattening the ocean on our side to a mirror. Because of its crisp air and clear sky April provides the best chances to see the green flash. August the tradewinds die and it gets really hot. You will spend most of your time under water or in the pool sipping on a cold drink.
OCTOBER & NOVEMBER
It can rain quite a lot during this time and very likely it does but there is no guarantee for liquid sunshine. Sometimes the season does not live up to its name

and it does not rain much at all. Or it rains cats and dogs every night all night and be nice during daytime.

DECEMBER - MARCH
If you want to escape the cold winter back home - this is the best time to come to Roatan. Air and water temperatures are not as high as in summer. February & March is Whale shark season. tua
Tropical Storms and Hurricane Season: September - November
Roatan is not on the main hurricane corridor. Due to its specific location tucked away Northwest of the Mosquitia land corner a direct hit is not very likely. Tropical storm systems usually turn into the Mosquitia coast or pass the Bay Islands on their way North. You find links to Hurricane tracking websites in the right column.

We are located on the north side of Roatan whereas the forecast is made for the airport located on the south side. In case of rough weather on our side, diving and snorkeling should still be fine on the south side. |
