  ARE YOU BEACH FRONT ?
The picture above says it all. Lands End is located on the wild romantic iron shore facing west. The next sandy beach is Half Moon Bay, a mere 5 min walk away. [MAPS]

HOW FAR ARE YOU FROM WESTEND VILLAGE?

Lands End is located in Westend but not in the mere center. Restaurants, shopping, and night life are less than 5 minutes walk away. It is 10 minutes to the center of West End Village. In 1 mile you’ve “seen it all” .
On the map Westend looks bigger than it really is!

HOW FAR IS IT TO THE NEXT SANDY BEACH?
There is a fine beach at Half Moon Bay (5min walk) West Bay Beach is several miles from West End Village, but cabs (10US$) and water taxis (2US$) can take you there. Most of the beaches become crowded on “cruise ship days” and holidays. Our beach here at Lands End, though man-made, is limited to the use of our guests; and is, thus, private and never crowded. [MAPS]

TRANQUILITY
No cars, no bars, NO ROOSTERS. The gentle splashing of the waves and the occasional dive boat passing by will be the only 'noise' at Lands End.

SAFETY
Ocean Front and Beach View rooms are equipped with a safe for cash, tickets, passport, camera etc. Bigger items can be stored in the office safe. There is a 50 US$ deposit for the safe key. Fully refundable on return of the key. If you loose the key or damage the box or the key, we keep the money.

COFFEE, TEA, ICE
Coffee and Tea are freshly brewed every morning. Coffee and Tea stays available in thermos jugs until finished. Ocean Front rooms have a small coffee maker in the rooms. You can get ice in one of the convenience stores nearby. Please note that we do not provide 24hrs free ice service nor do we sell ice in bags. No ice machine available on site.

ORGANIC SALTWATER INFINITY POOL
Lands End features a saltwater infinity pool right next to the bar. A 3HP pump brings the water directly from the ocean. It flows over the edge back into the sea. Unlike freshwater pools, this one does not require any chemicals to stabilize it or to disintegrate debris. NO chlorine, NO flock or other horrible stuff that may irritate your skin or harm the reef. You are enjoying pure ocean water, nothing else. You can even see bioluminescence at night.
Due to its organic nature, the pool needs cleaning periodically.
Depending on the air temperature, ocean temperature and rain, cleaning is due every 7 - 21 days. We empty it, pressure wash it and fill it back up again. This process may take from 6 to 18 hours depending on the algae growth, weather conditions and other factors. We are doing our best to be as quick as possible.
Rough seas may not allow the safe operation of the intake system.

WIFI & COMPUTERS
We offer free Wifi in the lounge, and the bar via satellite. Our provider allows a total of 200 MB download per day - perfect for surfing, emailing, skype etc. to keep in touch with friends and familiy as well as for work (documents). The use of pages offering downloads and videos, such as YouTube, Internet TV, torrents, etc. will exceed the permitted download limits and result in a reduction of speed for the period of 24 hours. Please note that Lands End is not an internet cafe. We do not guarantee signal quaility, speed or 24hr connection.
If you require high speed and larger download capacity you can rent a 3G air card at the office and buy online days and weeks (TIGO) at a local grocery.

EXTRA TOWELS FOR YOUR ROOM
Yes, we provide extra room towels for $1 per extra towel you require.

BEACH TOWELS
We recommend to bring a sarong for the beach (also available at local gift shops). They take up very little space in your luggage and can be used in many different ways from a towel to sunscreen or a bag. Sand does not stick to them.
We have over sized beach towels for rent 2 US$ /d.

BACKUP GENERATOR
Power outages can happen in Roatan but they normally do not last longer than 2 - 4hrs. Most people who come to Roatan accept the power outages as part of life on a remote Carribean island. Our gravity feed water tower ensures water 24hrs, at less pressure than usual but it is there. We have a generator that runs everything but the AC units. In case of power failure our backup generator will be used to cover the most important electricity needs in the morning (7-10am) and in the evening (6-9pm).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------- back to the top
SNORKEL GEAR
There are several places that rent snorkel gear 5 - 15 US$ per day. Roatan is also an inexpensive place to buy top MARES snorkel gear. The cost of renting snorkel gear for a week will buy you a top quality mask, snorkel and fins. We would be happy to help you find the right gear for you.

WEATHER
Mid April to September it is a postcard. The tradewinds provide a gentle breeze from east, flattening the sea on our side of the island to a mirror. There is little rain to be expected if any at all. August and September the tradewinds die. The weather gets hot and humid. More on our weather page.

October to mid December is rainy season and low season rates apply. There is a high chance for rain (lots of rain), thunderstorms and rough seas on one side of the island. The other side would be dead calm. No worries, in case the sea is rough on our side, dive operators will take their boats to the south side (car, 25min) and visit dive sites like Mary's place, Prince Albert Wreck etc. Occasionally it is rough on both sides. Perfect for just another Rum :-)

January to March there is a chance for northeners. Polar air travels down all the way from Alaska and bring us strong winds from N and NW. These storms usually provide little rain but can stir up the sea for days, especially on the north side of Roatan.

Hurricane season for the Bay Islands is from 1st October - 30 November. There is little chance for a direct hit. Hurricanes usually deviate into the Mosquitia coast or turn north. In case of an expected direct hit the government will order the evacuation of all tourists from the island. Usually free flights to San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba are provided by military machines. However, hotels will be bursting full in both places and there will be no extra flight out of there. You might get stuck in one of the two cities that are prone to flooding and land slides. If you are not sure you have a flight out of there, you'd be better off staying on the island where we will do our best to find the safest place possible for you.
Stormtracking on our weather page.

Holidays
During Christmas and New Years (15 Dec - 3 Jan) prices are higher and there is a minimum booking of 7 nights required. This is to ensure the tranquility and service quality by reducing the coming and going. During the Easter Week same rules apply as above. Click here to check Easter dates here.

TAP WATER, PURIFIED WATER, ICE CUBES & SALAD
Most people think the origin of their bad stomach lies in the food or the ice cubes. However, it is empirically proven that singing in the shower is the main cause for Roatan-belly, tommy ache and diarrhea. You enjoy the cool water running down your naked body and you lean back your head as you have seen it in your favorite shower gel advert and sing singing in the rain...
You avoided all the goodness and pleasure that food can provide, you fished out the ice cubes of your rum & coke - but there it was - in your daily hygiene routine - the little mouth full of tap water that you were not aware of...

We provide a thermos (qrt. | 1liter) and glasses in the rooms. Purified cold water are 24hrs available in the lounge for free. Ice cubs, drinks and food at Lands End it is all made with purified water. By the way: Use purified water to brush your teeth.

MONEY & CREDIT CARDS IN ROATAN
1 US$ = 18.89 Lps. (18.5, 19 or 20)
US$ are accepted like Lempiras you do not need to exchange money at all.
Change is usually given in Lempiras. Do not rely on your credit card or expect businesses to accept your card. The system may not work properly or decline your card for no particular reason. Some businesses offer payment with card but the surcharge may exceed your expenses for ATM draws by far.

Carrying cash in Roatan is a normal thing. The Airport and Plaza Mar in Coxen Hole has the most reliable ATMs. Some ATMs may dispense US$ but most of the time it is not the case. You can as much as 5000 Lps (260 US$) per draw. If the machine is almost empty and does not give 5000, try a smaller amount. You can usually use the card again for another 5000 Lps. There are 3 ATMs in Westend.

Traveler Checks
Unfortunately the US banks decided not to cash them if they are not absolutely perfectly countersigned (in some cases they even require the use of the same pen !!!). As a result many businesses in Roatan including us do not accept travelers checks any more.

WHAT IS THERE TO DO IF I DON'T DIVE?
LOTS. The Botanical Gardens. Canopy Tours. The Butterfly Garden. Dolphin Encounter. Snorkeling. Shopping. Sunbathing. Relaxing. Buying property. All are close by. [CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT OUR ACTIVITIES PAGE]

-------------------------------------------------------------------------- back to the top
PACKING
Travel light! You don't need much in Roatan. Make sure your hand luggage contains a pair of sandals, shorts, a couple of T-shirts, sunglasses, a set of beach ware, a couple of light dresses, your camera and your charger. In case your main luggage arrives later than you, these items will be all you need. Refrain from bringing your jewlery or other valuable items to your tropical holiday in Roatan. There is no place to take it out to anyways. October to December we recommend to pack a foul weather jacket - just in case (click here for weather).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------- back to the top
SAFETY
Westend is generally a safe place. Just don't leave your wallet in a bar on the counter or in a taxi. The walk to Lands End is safe at any time of the day. The road is lit and there are quite a few places with watchmen along the way. Outside of the tourist areas we recommend to use your common sense. Same rules as at home apply. Don't be stupid, don't make yourself a target, stay away from obviously shady areas, don't provoke anybody and always cooperate with the police.

Central American men are known for staring, whistling and making the cat sound to women. People in Roatan are used to see and live side by side with foreigners and show only a minimal form of this unpleasant behaviour.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------- back to the top
CRUISE SHIPS
Depending on the season 1 - 4 cruise ships dock in Roatan. Cruise ship guests usually flock in West Bay and the zip lines. On cruise ship days taxis are hard to get and prices are higher. If you want to avoid the crowds, plan your activities accordingly.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------- back to the top
MOSQUITOS
We rake our beach regularly. Thus there is only a tiny population of sand flies and mosquitos at Lands End. Dusk and Dawn are the two hours where they might become a nuisance. Natural sprays and OFF (DEET) in various forms are available at the front desk and grocery stores in Westend. No need to import it.

Yes, there is malaria but unless you spend a couple of nights in the swamp it very unlikely you get it. Apart from that, it is a very light form (non recurrant) and medicine is ready available. YOU DO NOT NEED TO TAKE PROPHYLAXE. There are tastier ways to be cruel to your liver. Try a Rum & Coke or Ron Zacapa :-)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------- back to the top
WHALESHARKS
Best time for whalesharks is February and March. Another time with frequent sightings is May and June.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------- back to the top
COPAN RUINS
Yes, you can combine your visit to Roatan with a trip to the Copan ruins. If you have only 3 days available: do it is at the beginning of your trip. Fly to San Pedro and take a bus to Copan the same day (Hedmanalas), stay over night, visit the ruins the next day early morning, take a bus to San Pedro the same day. Stay over night, take a morning flight to Roatan.
If you plan to come to Roatan first, plan at least 4 or 5 days for your excursion.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------- back to the top
LEAVING HONDURAS BY AIR
Exit fee at the airport: 35US$/700Lps per person, cash only.
US$ or Lempiras or a mix are fine.
This is a great way to get rid of your excess Lempiras.
We recommend to stash it away on arrival so you do not have to rely on an ATM last minute...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------- back to the top
PAYMENT AND CANCELLATION
50% of the total will be charged as down payment. The rest will be charged not earlier than 30 days before, not later than the day of your arrival. Missed days due to weather conditions, earlier departure, change of plans, missed flights, failure to comply with Honduran passport requirements, flight delays or cancellations can not be refunded. No refunds or discounts for utility outages, bad weather or other circumstances beyond the managements control. Give-in's and free-be's as well as unconsumed amenities will not result in refunds.

Cancellation not later than 30 days before arrival results in forfeiting down payment (we will not charge the rest payment). After that date the full amount is forfeited. In case of no show I forfeit the full amount. In any case we honor your deposit for a stay at Lands End within 12 months counting from your original check-in date.
